Guy Gully Would Race Us Down The Lake

Photo of Guy And Mary Gully. During WWII my dad took an old Thompson hull and added a 1938 4cyl 60hp Plymouth engine to make it an inboard. As kids we thought we were big stuff, but a banker named Guy had the most powerful boats on the lake (140hp Ventor, then in 1955, a Craft Cobra). He'd pretend to race us, letting us win once in a while. As a young man I sat in his living room lisitening to his great hi fi and enjoying the view of the lake. His house is still there overlooking the lake as it did then. Guy and his wife Mary shared their lives with a lot of friends including some kid named Dave and later a younger kid named Ivor J (Jim) Lee. In the 70's Jim and I became partners in a computer business and in many a crazy venture. Later Jim was killed in an unfortunate accident in Lake Wales Florida in a twin engine plane he had built from a kit..
